Business Continuity Planning (BCP) & Disaster Recovery Planning (DRP) are the processes and plans that mitigate the impact of a disruptive event. That event could be as catastrophic as what we experienced on 9/11; or as benign  as a plumber who accidently cuts a water main and floods the building. Either scenario puts your organization at risk.  We believe that BCP/DRP is a component of a sound Enterprise Content Management solution.

Whether you are a company of 3 or 30,000, you need a written plan.  How in depth a plan is contingent upon your company. It all boils down to risk management... how much risk can your  company can accept. For example it might make fiscal sense to replicate your offices and data center off-site to reduce your down time to hours if not minutes if you trade stocks, but a beauty saloon can take a day or two to find a temporary space to utilize until the emergency has passed.
